Reddawn stands with Tonga
The Australian Security Industry has taken a stand in efforts to provide much needed relief to Tonga following the devastation from recent events.
The 15 January, 2022 Tonga volcanic eruption and tsunami that resulted in three deaths and hundreds of homes destroyed has been declared an emergency crisis demanding immediate water relief. With the toxic volcanic ash and sulphur causing a risk of contamination to all water supply in Tonga, safe drinking water has become one of the most immediate needs of the community.
According to the Deputy President of the Tonga-Australian Chamber of Commerce (TACC), Koniseti Liutai, “Tonga relies on rainwater, and with the impacts of the volcano, it will take a long time for the community to have safe water again. Whatever can be donated to support this is greatly appreciated.”
Simon Auston, the Chief Executive Officer of Reddawn Australia, reached out to security industry providers to stand by the effort as an industry by donating a pallet of water to be sent over in relief.
With 16 Companies joining the effort by donating a pallet of water each (valued at $620 per pallet) and contributing towards shipping costs to get the water to Tonga. The total relief accumulated by the Australian Security Industry effort amounts to 16 pallets of water, equating to 29,376 x 600ml bottles of water, which is being organised at the Reddawn Commercial Warehouse free of charge.
Of the efforts to provide aid to Tonga, Reddawn Australia CEO Simon Auston said, “Koniseti and the Tongan community have been part of the core fabric of the Security and Events industry over many years. They have always been there to assist, not just Reddawn, but the entire industry. Both in our operations and on a personal level, and now it’s time for us to give back to them.”
100% of donated funds TACC receives are used to purchase relief items or cover shipping costs to send to Tonga. To donate or find more information about TACC’s Save Tonga relief fund, email cecilia@taccsydney.com.au
